Eccentric scissor collector Sir Fredrick Marrow journeys to win the Ultimate Pair of Scissors and be granted one wish…unless its to kill someone.
Shear Madness is a mockumentary-style absurdist comedy following Sir Fredrick Marrow through his journey of winning the Big Game and procuring the Ultimate Pair of Scissors, to finally complete his collection.
After winning the lottery, Sir Fredrick broke free from his family's boring business of selling "functional" scissors, and pursued his dream of opening his own "Scissoratorium," a museum to display scissors from around the world.
Surrounded by his new staff and a film crew, Sir Fredrick trains for the Big Game while facing jealous familial ties and elite competition.
We have it all: sweat-soaked training montages, a messy love triangle (parallelogram?), high-stakes scissor fights, and even a show-stopping musical performance.
It’s hard to define Shear Madness, but here’s our attempt with a few things you may have seen before…
A note from our producer…
Dear Reader,
Thank you for clicking this link and scrolling down this far. Even if you only read this sentence and scroll right back up after seeing the wall of text after it, I thank you.
If you want to keep reading, here are my thoughts:
I am so grateful that this group of people banded together for a post-grad project, and I couldn’t imagine spending my summer weekends any where else. Not only are they fun, they go above and beyond in their roles. You can be committed to something, passionate about it, and talented in what you do, but its rare to have all 3. I have found the people that do.
Working with Ella, Alec, Enzo, and Finn has made my time at Berkeley. I had no experience when I joined the film club on campus, but having friends by my side eased my fears and allowed me to jump in to absorb as much as I could about this new world. Now, they’re with me as we step into the new world of adulthood, and I am again put at ease knowing they’ll be with me to tackle this project.
We were going to make a short film. When the first draft of the script was finished, we only wanted more. Now its a feature film, and I have been living out my fantasy of having more than 2 months for pre-production (student films are crazy). Since January, we have been working tirelessly to get everything prepared for this summer. The 75 page script flies by with a joke every half minute, we’re assembling a wonderful crew from all around California, meticulously mulling over auditions, securing locations I never could have dreamed of stepping foot in, and getting ready to enter the mind of our protagonist with gorgeous wardrobe and set design. While my job is to worry about what’s to come, I can’t help but step back and admire everything we’ve accomplished so far.
I hope you’ll consider helping us on this journey. Even by sending this link to people you know, liking our Instagram posts, or emailing a nice little note, anything and everything is appreciated (maybe consider donating too). This is going to take a lot, like, a lot. We’re excited for what’s to come, and we hope you are too.
Thank you for all for your support,
